Mounted Cowboy Shooting
 The Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association Extravaganza brings in the top competitors and their trained horses for the largest competition and showcase east of the Mississippi. Mounted Shooting is a combination of barrel racing and six-gun shooting, with black powder blanks, to run a course of balloon targets for speed and accuracy. In this sport, the horse is as much a competitor as the rider, especially when shooting lever action rifles at full speed. Plus, John has the new product report on the guns and gear introduced at the NRA Annual Meeting in Indianapolis.
CMSA Extravaganza
 The CMSA’s Extravaganza is one of their larger events east of the Mississippi, with over a 100 Regional Clubs and over 19 thousand members in the United States and Canada. With this association you get Cowboy Mounted Shooting and a long-standing association that stretches coast to coast.
There are stand and shoot events, and run and gun events, but what happens when you go Old West and add a horse to that run and gun competition? Check out where the top riders go fast for the cash.
 Mounted Cowboy Shooting requires two single action revolvers, or a single action paired with a lever action rifle. The loads are controlled by the CMSA and are crimp-nosed blanks loaded with black powder, safe in an arena environment, but capable of breaking balloon targets set in a 10-balloon pattern. The rider’s score is the time in seconds to run the course, with a five second penalty for a missed balloon.
The action is one part barrel racing combined with fast draw shooting. It’s a crowd-pleaser and a spectacle for television coverage.

2023 NRA
There has been a trend in the gun industry over the last several years to hold new product releases past January and SHOT Show to reveal them when the public can be there. There are smaller regional shows, but one of the biggest opportunities new introductions is the NRA’s Annual Meeting and Convention. There’s lots to see this year from Indianapolis, so let’s get to it.

Scholastic Action Shooting College Nationals
 The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation, they’re the organization that offers the SCTP, or Scholastic Clay Target Program, for middle school and high-school age shotgun shooters. They also offer the Scholastic Action Shooting Program, or SASP. It’s a action shooting sport that draws a lot from Steel Challenge and this year the Collegiate Nationals are bigger than ever. The action bays at the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park are the place for college and high school shooting teams from around the country to compete.
 This is a special year for the Scholastic Action Shooting Program, as they re-name their centerfire National Championship Trophy to honor one of their original industry partners, as they also create a new Rimfire Pistol National Championship Trophy to honor another partner who has been involved from the start.
