Pro Tip: 4 Target Transition

Colt29-TargetTrans-1
That was an eight-shot drill I just did. I call it my four-target transition drill and it was inspired by Go Fast Concepts.

I think it’s really important to practice transitions, because that’s where a lot of time adds up in a stage. So, if you practice this drill, you’ll make your transitions faster and more efficient.

For this drill I have two targets up close and two targets in the back. The front targets are at five yards and there are five yards in between them.

The back targets are at 10 yards and there are three yards between them.

We are going to start this drill when we draw. We are going to shoot the front right first, then we are going to transition to the back left, then transition to the back right, and then transition to the front left.

We are going to transition all the way across to the front right again, and repeat, front right, back left, back right, and front left. And that is the eight-shot drill.

Now, we are going to look at the transitions part of this drill, so when we draw and we shoot our eyes are on the sights. Then when we transition, our eyes are going to lead the gun to the next target, which is the back left. The gun will follow. Aim, break the shot when we are ready, and then again we are going to eyes.

I really want to reiterate that your eyes drive to the target and the gun follows.

We have condensed this drill down in order to make it fit indoors, but if you have more room, you can push the targets out wider and further back in order to make it more challenging.

The goal for this drill is to make you more efficient and faster, with down zero hits, so you need to find your pace on this drill in order to be able to do all three things.

Colt29-TargetTrans-9
This is my favorite drill because I believe transitions are that important. So go to the range and give this drill a shot.
