We all know the 1911 pistol. The most famous of John Browning’s classic designs the standard pistol of the US Military for 75 years. More than two and a half million were made for US forces, and civilian versions are still in production today. The 1911 is one of the most popular for collectors, particularly for one 1911 expert who has amassed a remarkable collection with documented stories about the guns and where they have been. Somewhere in Indiana behind a 1300-pound door rests a stash of 1911s that would make any museum proud.

41-06-2There are so many different variations of the war era 1911 that it’s hard to keep track of exactly what is what and some guns are known not by the markings they have but the markings they don’t. Collectors call them lunchbox guns, pistols that made their way out of the factory maybe in somebody’s lunchbox before they got a serial number and proof markings.

History’s Guns - Remington 1903A3

41-06-4Mention WWII and instantly you’re thinking the M1 Garand, but at the start of the war, there weren’t enough of them. So, thousands of G.I.s carried the ‘03 Springfield, left over from WWI. And Remington got the contract to make more and make them quickly. That brought changes, lots of them, and a new designation, the US Model 1903-A3 that is now one of History’s Guns.

Classic Nationals

41-06-6Of all the divisions of USPSA competition, four are considered low capacity, ten rounds or less per magazine or reloader, Limited 10, Production, Revolver and Single Stack. For the competitors who choose these divisions, round count is critical and reloads are top of mind. More than 250 have converged in Talladega for the USPSA’s Classic Nationals. John reports the action and takes on Range Officer duties for the 2022 Classic Nationals.
