Julie Golob - 50-Round Drill

Julie2015-1-1
How often do you shoot your concealed carry firearm? Well I tell you what, between time and money it’s not always easy to get to the range, but I’m going to walk you through a simple seven-step one box of ammo drill that will help you maintain your concealed carry firearm skills.

Now I have a USPSA target setup behind me, but it doesn’t matter. You can use paper plates, any type of target as long as you have two distinct aiming points. Also, it doesn’t matter how far you set this target up, whatever makes you comfortable.

We’re going to start off with speed first, or cold speed. I’m going to shoot two rounds from the low ready at the center of this target, and I’m going to do that a total of five times. So, that’s going to be ten rounds of your speed shooting into the middle of the target.

Now we’re going to focus on accuracy. I’m going to shoot five rounds into the center of the big target.

Now we’re going to really focus on accuracy by shrinking the target and shooting five rounds into the head. It’s important to mention that you’ll need to make sure that your gun has enough ammo in it to complete each string of fire for this drill. So load as necessary.

So we’ve shot some great groups on this target. Now we’re going to bring speed back into the picture. I’m going to shoot two rounds as quickly as I can see the sights into the head. Do that a total of five times for ten rounds.

Now we are going to incorporate transitions into the picture. We are going to shoot one to the body and one to the head. Repeat that string for a total of ten rounds.

Now we are going to finish things up by going back to accuracy, except we are going to introduce one-handed shooting. You’ll shoot five rounds into your target with your strong hand only, and then five rounds into your target with a weak hand only.

Now remember this is a maintenance drill.  So there are no draws or reloads. It’s all about pure shooting. You’ll want to analyze your target throughout. Identify any problems so that you can fix them the next time you head to the range.
