Julie Golob - Shooting a Stage in IDPA

Julie2104-3-2

I’m in Mike’s Blind, a fun stage in the match where you have 15 rounds, five targets, requiring three shots each. You start seated in the blind with your shotgun and, what’s unique about this stage is, unlike many other IDPA stages where you hear an audible start signal, you actually control the start. And basically, you get yourself ready, whenever you’re ready to go, you put your hands on the start position, push this blind over and then all the targets start moving.

This is the shooters perspective of the stage. You have your hands in the start position and as you push over this blind on a hinge the first two targets are going to appear on the right.

They’re going to disappear then on the left. Another target’s going to pop out. You’re going to swing over to the right and you are going to have two more targets. That makes five total targets.

You’ve just seen the shooter’s perspective. Now I’m going to talk you through it. Basically, I’ve thrown over the blind, and the targets that are going to appear on the boat are what I’m going to shoot first.

The first target on the left appears first and I’m going to shoot three rounds at it. Followed by the trailing target, another three rounds. Now, you may have noticed a lull in the timing and that’s a perfect time to do a reload. IDPA has what’s called a tactical reload. Meaning I can’t drop a magazine with live ammunition, but I can stow it and secure another live magazine to finish up the stage.

I’m going to finish up by shooting the left hand target with three rounds, and then transition to the right, shooting those moving targets after they’ve slowed down a little bit to finish the stage.

My time was a 9.47.
